Death is not worse pain than an empty life. -- Lun Tha

I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this...
I think all children should read the classics of literature. Playmore, Inc. is a publisher that believes this, too. But they bring out these works of merit in a more "easily digestible" format.

Illustrated Classic Editions

Mums gave Cyclone two such books and she gave me one. This last, of course, is a joke. She is contributing to my collection of Pride and Prejudice books. I have six or so editions of this incredible work, but no two are bound/produced in the same way. This last is printed for children, to let them read Austen's story and enjoy it.

But the prose doesn't read Austenian at all!

I don't know how I feel about that.

It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a large fortune must be in want of a wife.

And here is this Juvenile translation:

It is a fact, everyone agrees, that a young man with money should have a wife.

This ISN'T JANE!!!

But...if it got a young person interested in the story...would such a travesty be allowable, by the literary muses?

I am not sure, but I do know that I feel compelled to read this whole book, now. It might take me all of twenty minutes.

That feels wrong, but I don't know if I can truly fault the publishers of the wrongness is merely in my own wish for purity of interpretation.

I guess I'll never know.

And here's your host!
