Whitecaps on the Caloosahatchee
We had it planned all week. Snack on the river. Yep.
So, with the day overcast and with the possibility of rain, we packed a munch and a canned beverage each into Cartoon Ranger's insulated lunch box. Piled into the car and drove to the riverbank.
It is apparently high tide, just now. And the winds are between ten and twenty miles per hour, bringing whitecaps to the waves on the Caloosahatchee. The water was reaching the grassy banks, overwhelming the sand entirely.
A gray sky makes for a gray and brown river, with seagulls over the water and pigeons nearer the hotels and restaurant near by. CR and I watched as folks parked in the white-sand and shell lot and walked across the park to the restaurant that overlooked the river. The wind was just about blowing our lunchbox and munch-ems right off the table, it was so fun.
Sitting stationary in the wind was rather too chilly for my little guy (who was still dressed for school in shorts and polo shirt) so he climbed onto my lap and we sat together, talking about pigeons and the restaurant (a favorite of his, when we can go, because he likes to eat practically on the water) and the hotel (where his grandparents have stayed, and an aunt, on occasion) and the boats just behind us.
We had a perfectly lovely time. Put our trash in the garbage can. Walked along the grass with the wind blowing in our faces. Got in the car and came home.
I am sitting here a very contented mommy.
